Venue: Mem Saab Restaurant

APNA Arts with artist, Said Adrus and restaurant Mem Saab where successful in being awarded a ‘Year of the Artist ‘ grant from the Arts Council of England.

Said Adrus firstly filmed an audience eating Asian food in a traditional setting, eating with the hands and on the floor.

Most of the film focused on the mouths and eyes of the audience, with the film being slowed down in post production, creating an intimate portrait of people eating with there hands and capturing in detail the pleasure and pain involved with this process. The body language told no lies, so we were told.

These films were shown on video screens situated around a table, as if guests, whilst the table was laid out with found objects associated with cooking utensils. The work was on display for one week at the restaurant and a special preview night attracted more than one hundred people to eat, drink and enjoy contemporary art.
